Buying or selling a home is one of the most significant decisions most people make in their lives. For Janet Marroquin, a real estate agent based in Salt Lake City, it’s more than just a business transaction—it’s about guiding people through a process that can feel overwhelming with honesty, patience, and care.
Janet serves the Wasatch Front, from Pleasant View to Spanish Fork, and has built a reputation for her real estate expertise and approach. Her business, Janet Sells Homes in Utah: Living in Salt Lake City, reflects her belief that real estate is all about relationships. She’s not interested in just closing deals; she wants to ensure her clients are taken care of, whether buying their first home, upgrading, or selling to start a new chapter.
A Real Estate Career Built on Trust
Janet didn’t start in real estate with a clear plan in mind. She stumbled into the industry and quickly realized it was a good fit for her. But more than that, she realized she could make a difference in how people experience the process. “I didn’t have all the answers when I started, but I knew I wanted to take care of people,” Janet says. “I just wanted to help.”
For Janet, that’s the heart of her career. “Real estate is about so much more than buying and selling houses,” she explains. “It’s about understanding people’s needs and helping them find what’s best for them.” Over the years, she’s worked with all kinds of clients—from first-time buyers to those looking to downsize after retirement. Every situation is different, but her approach stays the same: always put the client’s needs first.
“I spend a lot of time getting to know my clients,” Janet says. “I want to understand their goals, their timeline, and what’s really important to them. It’s not just about the house—it’s about what kind of life they want to create in it.”
Being There Every Step of the Way
One of the reasons Janet stands out in a crowded field is her commitment to making sure her clients never feel lost or alone in the process. “Buying or selling a home can be overwhelming,” she says. “There’s so much information out there, and it can be hard to know where to start.”
That’s where Janet’s approach comes in. She doesn’t just show clients a few properties and call it a day. Instead, she walks them through every step of the process, from the first conversation all the way to the final closing. She even goes as far as to break down what the process will look like ahead of time, so clients know exactly what to expect.
“I want my clients to feel confident,” she says. “The more information they have, the easier it is for them to make decisions. My job is to give them the right tools to feel comfortable and prepared.”
But it’s not just about the mechanics of the real estate process for Janet. It’s about taking the time to listen to what her clients are really saying. Sometimes, they’re nervous or unsure, and sometimes, they need a little extra help figuring out what they want.
“It’s not always about pushing people to make a decision,” Janet explains. “Sometimes, it’s about helping them talk through their options. And if it’s not the right time to make a move, that’s okay too. I’m here to support them no matter what.”
A Focus on Community
One of the things Janet loves most about her job is the relationships she builds with her clients. For her, it’s not just about one transaction—it’s about being part of her clients’ lives for the long haul. “I think of my clients as part of my extended family,” Janet says. “When you work with someone on such an important part of their life, it’s not just a business transaction. You really get to know them and care about their journey.”
That connection doesn’t stop once the paperwork is signed. Janet makes it a point to keep in touch with past clients, whether it’s checking in after they’ve moved into their new home or just sending a note to see how they’re doing.
“Real estate is all about community,” she says. “It’s about being there for people, not just when they’re buying or selling, but when they need advice or help with something else down the road.”
It’s this focus on building relationships, rather than just making sales, that sets Janet apart. “When you really care about your clients, they feel it,” she says. “And that’s what builds trust.”
Looking Ahead: Building a Team
After 18 years in the business, Janet is now at a point where she’s ready to expand and mentor others. She’s working on building a team of agents who share her values and vision for what real estate should be. “I want to pass along what I’ve learned,” she says. “I want to help new agents understand that this job is about more than just transactions. It’s about people. It’s about helping people make the best decisions for their lives.”
Janet is also developing a course for new agents to help them lean into their own strengths and build their businesses based on their unique skills. “Everyone has something different to offer,” she explains. “If you can focus on what makes you stand out, you’ll attract the right clients. It’s not about trying to be like everyone else.”
Through all of this, Janet’s goal is clear: she wants to help more people and do it in a way rooted in care and understanding.
“I’ve learned a lot over the years, but the most important thing I’ve learned is this: if you put people first, everything else will fall into place,” she says.
For Janet, real estate is more than just a career. It’s a chance to help people navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives with confidence, compassion, and integrity. And that’s what makes her one of the most respected professionals in the industry.
