How has your experience as a successful businesswoman shaped your approach to real estate?

Alexis Clark: My background as a successful businesswoman has deeply influenced my approach to real estate. Whether selling or owning property, real estate is akin to managing a small business. Property ownership offers various financial benefits, including the ability to borrow against your assets, tax incentives, and the opportunity to become a landlord. It’s important to approach real estate with a business mindset, leveraging these opportunities to maximize returns and build wealth.

As a single mother, how do you balance the demands of parenthood with the demands of your career in real estate?

Alexis Clark: Balancing parenthood and a career in real estate can be challenging, but I’ve found ways to make it work. I adhere to a schedule that aligns with my child’s school hours and makes use of the time when my child is occupied with activities such as school or television. Sometimes, I’ve even brought my child along to show homes or visit construction sites, turning these experiences into educational opportunities. It’s all about finding a balance that works for both my career and my family.

As an alumna of an HBCU for law school, how do you celebrate and honor the legacy of Black excellence in your real estate career, especially during Black History Month?

Alexis Clark: Growing up in Atlanta, I was surrounded by Black excellence, which shaped my perspective on success. Attending an HBCU like Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law was a transformative experience that highlighted the importance of representation and equal opportunity. HBCUs were created to ensure that Black individuals had access to the same opportunities as everyone else, and I carry that legacy forward in my real estate career. During Black History Month and beyond, I celebrate and honor this legacy by advocating for diversity and inclusivity in the real estate industry, ensuring that everyone has a chance to succeed.

What advice do you have for other aspiring businesswomen looking to thrive in the real estate sector?

Alexis Clark: For aspiring businesswomen in real estate, my advice is simple: work hard and invest in your career. Make sure everyone knows you’re a real estate agent, and take the time to build your personal brand. Investing in your appearance, social media presence, and networking can pay dividends in this industry. Real estate is a rewarding career, but it requires dedication and effort to thrive.

Alexis Clark: Building a successful real estate business while managing personal and professional responsibilities requires careful planning and flexibility. Scheduling is essential, but so is being adaptable to the needs of your clients, who often require evening and weekend appointments. It’s important to have a strong support system, both at home and in your professional life. Building a team of reliable professionals and networking to expand your contacts can help you manage your workload and achieve success in real estate.
